Concerns and Complaints

The British Psychoanalytical Society aims to ensure that its members, clinical staff and students maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, and they are all expected to adhere to the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) Code of Ethics.

If your concern or complaint relates to any member of staff at the British Psychoanalytical Society (incorporating the Institute of Psychoanalysis), you can contact the Chief Executive Officer:

Acting Institute Manager
0207 563 5009
Institute of Psychoanalysis Byron House 112A Shirland Road London W9 2BT

If a complaint or concern about a member of the Society who is on the British Psychoanalytic Council Register cannot be resolved directly with him or her, you should contact the British Psychoanalytic Council.

Tel: 0207 561 9240

British Psychoanalytic Council Suite 7   19-23 Wedmore Street London N19 4RU

If the complaint concerns a member of the British Psychoanalytical Society not registered with the BPC, the British Psychoanalytical Society Ethics and Professional Standards Committee will hear the complaint.

If the matter concerns the London Clinic of Psychoanalysis or Clinical Services North, we would recommend that in the first instance you should, wherever possible, talk about this to the person you are seeing for treatment or consultation.

However, if a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached in this way, you can contact the Head of the Adult Service in London or the Northern Service as appropriate, or Clinic Director to discuss the matter further:

clinic@iopa.org.uk
020 7563 5002
London Clinic of Psychoanalysis  Byron House 112a Shirland Road London W9 2BT

If you would prefer to speak to someone else, please contact the Acting Institute Manager.

If you have a concern or complaint about training or admissions, please contact Katerina.Tsami-Cole@iopa.org.uk or the Acting Institute Manager for the full complaints procedure.
