How you can help

The Institute of Psychoanalysis (IOPA) is a registered charity. We are an independent organisation and receive no direct public funding.

Founded in 1913, IOPA is dedicated to enhancing lives through the provision of psychoanalytic treatment and the dissemination of psychoanalytic ideas and understanding. Past members include some of the most important figures in the field, among them Wilfred Bion, John Bowlby, Anna Freud, Melanie Klein and Donald Winnicott.

We are an association of highly skilled professionals who share ideas, as well as developing and passing on their expertise to each new generation. Central to our mission is the provision of rigorous trainings in child and adult psychoanalysis and making low cost analysis available through our Clinic.

IOPA also has a significant public-facing aspect. Through our member's work, both directly and indirectly, we are involved in the treatment of thousands of people suffering from psychological and mental disorders. We run conferences and courses, in person and online, nationally and worldwide. These events are not only for psychoanalysts and psychotherapists, but for all mental health professionals and the general public. Our members teach and supervise in many countries, as well as being involved in cross-cultural exchanges with colleagues overseas. IOPA holds an extensive archive and oversees the publication of a range of scholarly works in the field.

Support the IOPA

You can support the Institute of Psychoanalysis by becoming a donor, helping us to continue our work for the next 100 years. When you support us, you are helping to fund important services and initiatives, such as bursaries for trainees or subsidising analytic treatment, in accordance with our charitable mission and objectives. Your donations play a crucial role in ensuring that we have the financial resources necessary to create a lasting impact.

Thank you for helping.

Leave a legacy

Thank you for considering leaving a gift to the Institute in your will. Bequests have always been a key source of support to our development as a major centre of psychoanalytic thinking, training and clinical work.

You can contact us to find out more, or to discuss your wishes in confidence. We appreciate that leaving a legacy gift is a personal decision that you may prefer to keep private, but we would like to thank you if you are happy to share your intentions.

Leave a gift in memory

Leaving a gift to the Institute of Psychoanalysis in memory of your loved one is a special way to celebrate their life and to help secure our work for future generations of psychoanalysts and patients.

There are several ways to support us in memory of your loved one, for example collections or online donations in memory, or organising a funeral collection.
