“A Critical Appraisal of the Mainstream Public Health and Psycho-Social Narrative” examines from a psychoanalytic perspective the prevailing public health strategies and the associated psychological and social narratives during the COVID-19 pandemic. It aims to analyse the effectiveness and implications of these approaches.
Dr Marco Chiesa MD, FRCPsych, F.Inst.Psychoanal. After training as a general psychiatrist at Charing Cross Hospital, London and completing specialist higher psychiatric training in psychotherapy at the Cassel Hospital, Richmond, Dr Chiesa was appointed Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy at the Cassel Hospital in 1991 where he worked until 2015. He developed both a community-based service for personality disorder (PD) and a Research Unit for the study of PD. He led a number of research projects to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of treatment, the role of attachment and reflective function in predicting the onset of PD and response to treatment. Dr Chiesa has held academic positions at University College London, and in 1991 was appointed Visiting Professor at the UCL Research Department of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology. He is a Fellow of the British Psychoanalytical Society and has been working in private practice for over 35 years. He has regular teaching engagements in the UK and abroad and has published widely in the field of psychotherapy and personality disorder.
