Mary Short is a child and adult analyst, and a member of both the BPAS (British Psychoanalytical Society) and NIPaS (Northern Ireland Psychoanalytic Society). She is an IPA-accredited Training and Supervising Analyst. She has trained as a Child and Adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic; and as a Parent-Infant psychoanalytic psychotherapist at the Anna Freud Centre. 

She works part-time as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services); and as a Parent-Infant Psychotherapist within a perinatal team in AMHS (Adult Mental Health Services), both in the Belfast Trust, in N.Ireland.  She is also in private practice with adults, adolescents, children and infants.

She is on the Board of NIPaS and is the chair of the training committee. She teaches and supervises NIPaS candidates.  She is involved in the teaching of medical students and junior doctors, as for many years taught on the Tavistock pre-clinical psychotherapy course in Belfast. She also supervises child psychotherapists in training.
