Published in 2024, the Revised Standard Edition (RSE) addresses critiques of the original translations by James Strachey, and reflects years of dedicated work by its Editor, Mark Solms.
Our upcoming conference will showcase six internationally acclaimed authors, each presenting original contributions on the legacy of Freud’s work:
- Mark Solms, on the scientific language employed in Strachey’s original translations
- Heinz Weiss, on Freud as translator, and translation
- Marie Lenormand, on unravelling Freud’s “Wo Es war, soll Ich werden“
- Jonathan Lear, on the biblical figure of Balaam in Freud’s work
- Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, on Nachträglichkeit and the legacy of Apartheid
- and Leticia Glocer Fiorini on sexual difference
These papers represent a selection from the 17 essays that feature in our Special Issue on the Revised Standard Edition, and which engages with the legacy of Freud’s work, as well as the future of psychoanalytic thought more generally.
