Rosine Jozef Perelberg, PhD is a Training and Supervisor Analyst, a Distinguished Fellow and Past President of the British Psychoanalytical Society. She is a member of the International Psychoanalytic Association, Corresponding Member of the Société Psychanalytique de Paris. Previously, she undertook a PhD in Social Anthropology at the London School of Economics. She is Visiting Professor in the Psychoanalysis Unit, Research Department of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology within the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences (PALS) at University College, London.

Nikola Kern, MD is a Member of the British Psychoanalytical Society. After studying medicine in Heidelberg, Germany, she started her psychiatric training at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich. She completed her training at the Maudsley Hospital and has worked there since as a Consultant Psychiatrist. She has a private psychoanalytic practise in London.

Psychoanalysis has, since Freud, viewed sexuality in itself as traumatic to the individual. This traumatic dimension is linked to the force of the drives, in that there is always something in excess that cannot be reduced to the level of representation. It also relates to the recognition of the difference between the sexes, the result of a long process of development and elaboration.

This series of seminars examines some of the key debates in contemporary psychoanalytic literature, with specific emphasis on my own contributions.
