The Forum - Psychoanalysts in Dialogue
with Artists on Shakespeare's Characters
Friday 24th February 2023
6.30pm - 8.30pm (GMT)
With Simon Russell Beale, Erica Whyman and Dr David Bell
Chaired by Susan Godsil
At The Institute of Psychoanalysis and Online via Zoom
This dialogue will be recorded and available for 1 week to all registered participants
The renowned actor Simon Russell Beale, who has played many of Shakespeare’s main characters and is also well known from his role in The Lehman Trilogy, and Erica Whyman, acting artistic director at the Royal Shakespeare Company, will be in dialogue with the psychoanalyst Dr David Bell, who, alongside a wide range of publications on psychoanalytic theory and practice, has been particularly interested in psychoanalytic thinking about arts and culture. Together they will explore characters in Shakespeare’s plays (Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and a number of others) from the different perspective of actor, director and psychoanalyst.
The event will be chaired by psychoanalyst Susan Godsil, who also has a particular interest in the application of psychoanalysis to arts, theatre and music.
