Psychological Roots of the Climate Crisis: Neoliberal Exceptionalism and the Culture of Uncare.
Sally Weintrobe
Sally Weintrobe will explore and discuss with the audience key ideas from her new book: the culture of uncare that neoliberalism spread during its era (the last forty years), and the rise of the climate bubble that this led to. The climate bubble is a fraud bubble to justify in virtual not real ways taking what belongs to future generations. As with all fraud bubbles, it must burst. David Wallace-Wells, one of the book's endorsers put it that Weintrobe explains that we are living in wonderland, but not for long. She argues that the climate crisis has been largely driven by Exceptionalism, involving a rigid mindset in control of politics and the economy. She unpacks the psychology underlying this mindset, which involves a narcissistic form of entitlement, and she contrasts this with lively entitlement to conditions that support life to thrive.
