John Bowlby publishes the first in what will be a trilogy about attachment theory, 'Attachment'
It is also the first time Anna Freud has visited her own birthplace since she and her father fled the Nazis in 1938.

Two further books on the subject will follow, though Freud dies before the third and final work is written. As a trilogy, known as The Best Interests of the Child, it goes on to have a huge impact on child welfare policy in the UK, US and beyond.
