Our Clinic
Our Clinic provides services in London and the north of England and offers a low fee psychoanalysis with experienced staff in the later stages of training. Many experienced psychoanalysts provide support, and consultation within the Clinic. It is managed by a Committee of the Board of the Society.
The Clinic welcomes interest from those who want an analysis but would not be able to finance analysis in private practice. Those who are in difficult times or are at the start of their working lives and need help to establish themselves, could benefit and should contact us.
We will put enquiries in touch with a senior psychoanalyst for an initial conversation by phone. If a full consultation would be helpful as a next step, the Clinic has consultants who would see you, probably for two meetings. The fee for this will be discussed with you. A consultation will give you and the Clinic a good opportunity to understand what you are looking for and whether we can help. Please bear in mind the number of places are limited. If a psychoanalysis of 4 or 5 times per week is not the best outcome, we may be able to advise possible alternative help.
Before proceeding with arranging a consultation, you may wish to consider the frequently asked questions at the bottom of this page.
Frequently asked questions
I am interested in remote/virtual sessions?
Whilst we have been offering remote/virtual sessions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, face-to-face sessions have resumed and patients are expected to attend appointments either at the Clinic or at the Consultant/analyst’s consulting room.
I am enquiring on behalf of another person?
Our service is self-referral only and we will need to communicate directly with the applicant due to General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
I am looking for couples or group therapy?
Our service does not offer couples or group therapy.
How long will I have to wait before a consultation appointment is available at the Clinic?
Once you have completed the application process detailed above (we may also request reports from previous therapists with your consent) it may take up to six weeks from your initial enquiry before a consultation appointment is available (this may be significantly longer around holiday periods or when we are experiencing a high demand on our service).
What happens after my consultation appointment(s)?
The Consultant will submit a report to the Clinic regarding the consultation providing recommendations for treatment going forward and the Head of Service will contact you with details of these recommendations.
When will I start analysis?
Following the consultation, if five-times weekly analysis is recommended through the Clinic, a preliminary appointment with the prospective analyst will be offered to you as soon as a vacancy with an analyst becomes available.
What is the minimum cost of sessions?
Five-times weekly, low-fee analysis, if recommended following consultation, can be as low as £5 per session. Your financial position can be discussed with your analyst prior to commencing analysis.
I am undertaking training which requires me to be in analysis and am looking for a low-fee option?
Low-fee treatment through the London Clinic of Psychoanalysis is generally not suitable to anyone undertaking training who is required to undertake analysis with a qualified training analyst. Please contact your training organisation for further information.
I would like to book an appointment with a specific analyst or receive recommendations for analysts based on personal preference?
Appointments for consultation or analysis cannot be booked with specific analysts and we are unable to make recommendations for analysts based on personal preference due to the limited administration support available to undertake this research.
