When Henry Maudsley was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and delivered his Lectures in 1870 on Body and Mind, he said,

"the sorrow that has no vent in tears makes other organs weep"

In this talk, Kate Pugh will explore some of the psychoanalytic concepts around psychosomatic states and will be looking at theories from Freud, Klein and Bion amongst others, and will also introduce the emphasis of the Paris School of Psychosomatics. Clinical cases will be presented as illustration.

Dr Kate Pugh is a Child and Adolescent and Adult Psychoanalyst and Fellow of the British Psychoanalytical Society, a Training and Supervising Analyst. She is currently working privately and was Consultant Psychiatrist and tutor in Psychotherapy at Central and North West London Trust from 2000 to 2021. Kate Pugh teaches in Universities including the Psychoanalytic Studies Msc course at UCL, as well as teaching and supervising in Beijing. She runs clinical workshops at 10WW including Seminars on Child Analysis and the Psychosomatic Workshop.
