The 10 Windsor Walk International Therapeutic Playgroup Conference

About this event

Please join us for this conference that will focus on psychoanalytically informed playgroups for babies, toddlers and their parents. Held in collaboration with 10 Windsor Walk and the Institute of Psychoanalysis.

A drinks reception will take place the evening before, on Friday 8th May from 6pm - 8pm, at 10 Windsor Walk.

The main conference will take place on Saturday 9th May from 9am - 6:30pm at Institute of Psychoanalysis. 

Presentations will include:

  • A House for Encounter: Psychoanalysis, Care, and Childhood in the Margins, Valentina Peri Quinteros and Diego Blanco.
  • Continuity, specificity and adaptation: therapeutic playgroups in Italy by Dr Catia Angradi, Dr Nedda Papi and Dr Laura Radice.
  • The challenges of working in a therapeutic parent, baby and toddler playgroup for refugees and asylum seekers in London, Macarena Hernández Fuentes, Fatima Martinez del Solar, Teresa Sarmiento and Inge-Martine Pretorius. 
  • The Parent-Toddler Group model adapted for working with families who have adopted, Sarah Peter, Eva Crasnow and Karina Sarmiento.

Dr Emma Staples Hotopf trained in psychiatry at the Maudsley, in medical psychotherapy at the Tavistock, and is a psychoanalyst and Fellow of the British Psychoanalytical Society. She is the Clinical Director of 10 Windsor Walk Centre. She has an analytic practice and is a consultant psychiatrist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, where she leads the Specialist Self Harm Psychotherapy Service and supervises doctors training to become psychiatrists. She is an honorary Senior Lecturer with King’s MSc Psychotherapy programme at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience and oversees clinical placements. In 2015 she established the Institute of Psychoanalysis’ Maudsley Lectures in Psychoanalysis.

Dr Anne Ward is a Fellow of the British Psychoanalytic Society & Consultant Psychiatrist at the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.  She has for many years worked with mothers and babies and was instrumental in the appointment of the 1st Parent-Infant Therapist in Adult Services locally.  She has since worked closely with Perinatal Psychiatrists to develop this role across Community Services, and more recently been a keen participant and staunch supporter of 10 Windsor Walk 0-5 seminars.

Dr Maria Eugenia Valdivia Rossel is a psychoanalytic child and adolescent psychotherapist working in CAMHS services within the NHS since 2017. She currently works in East London NHS Foundation Trust and in private practice at 10WW. She has taught on the Birbeck MSc Psychodynamics of Human Development. She has published part of her doctoral thesis on working with silent children in the Journal of Child Psychotherapy. She trained at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
