Instead she agrees to a new reciprocal relationship with the Society, whereby she will provide child analysis training to Society graduates, and her own trainees will be able to qualify as analysts through the Society.

Her work, particularly in child analysis, will continue to be highly influential in child psychology and psychotherapy. Her Hampstead Clinic is renamed the Anna Freud Centre. Just two weeks after Freud’s death, Paula Heimann dies. Her work had been influential in emphasizing the importance of countertransference in analytic treatment.
