Adventure in Child Analysis: the Cyclops and Binocular Vision.
Child psychoanalysis uses the creative aspects of play, drawings, actions, and words to access a child’s internal world. These forms of expression are understood as communications, helping to develop ways of engaging with a child about their inner and external experiences.
This is often a gradual process requiring patience and careful observation, allowing meaning and understanding to emerge over time through the relationship between child and analyst.
This workshop will explore these ideas, considering the nature of psychoanalytic work with children and adolescents and its contribution to development. Using examples from a child’s artwork, it will examine how “monocular vision” in drawings may reflect a child’s struggle to see and face their situation, alongside contrasts with “binocular vision” as described by Wilfred Bion, drawing on both clinical and community-based practice.
Speaker: Dr Karl Huntbach
Dr Karl Huntbach is a Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychoanalyst and member of the British Psychotherapist and full member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists.
Karl works full time in his own practise and continues to see both adults and children for psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
