Ray will present the work he was tasked to undertake, interviewing over 200 victims, for the report about Jimmy Savile’s involvement with Leeds Royal Infirmary Hospital. Carine will present a fictionalised court report, based on all the facts that subsequently emerged, and prepared for the missing criminal trial following his 2007 interview under caution, that never led to charges being brought. The court report is constructed as if he had been arrested and remanded to prison at this time, the last opportunity, and is based on her fictionalised interviews of him in prison.

Dr Carine Minne chairs the IPA Violence Committee in the Community and World. She is a psychoanalyst with the BPAS and Consultant Psychiatrist in Forensic Psychotherapy at Broadmoor Hospital and Portman Clinic (NHS, Public Health Service, UK). She is Editor-in-Chief of the IJFP (International Journal of Forensic Psychotherapy). Carine was President of the International Association for Forensic Psychotherapy until May 2022. In her work, she brings together the disciplines of forensic psychiatry and psychoanalysis to work directly with offender patients in different settings, and indirectly, via teachings, training, and lecturing to professionals from various disciplines, nationally and internationally.

Ray Galloway is the Director of Blue Light Investigations and Training Limited. He retired from being a Detective Superintendent for North Yorkshire Police in 2013, having previously worked for Merseyside Police, with a total of 30 years in a range of investigative roles. He is a fully accredited Senior Investigating Officer with a breadth of experience in the investigation of homicide, organised crime and covert operations. He is also a trained and experienced Hostage Negotiator. Ray’s roles in the police service include those of Head of Major Crime, Head of Serious and Organised Crime and Director of Intelligence. He was the Kidnap and Extortion Champion for North Yorkshire and a member of the Association of Chief Police Officer (ACPO) national working group that identified best practice relating to the investigation of rape and serious sexual offences. Since his retirement from the police service Ray has directed the independent investigation in the activities of Jimmy Savile in Leeds and he was the co-author of the public report published in June 2014. From July 2014, Ray directed the NHS Savile Legacy Unit that was responsible for the oversight and quality assurance of all NHS investigations into Savile around the country. Again, he was co-author of the public report that was published in February 2015.

Acts of violence have long been a source of fascination and bewilderment, not least because the shock of their impact invites a particular type of thinking, or non-thinking. When confronted with unthinkable, or apparently mindless, acts, we are all vulnerable to locating the source of violence in the 'offender', and not seeing the links with the violence, both interpersonal and structural, in our families, communities and societies. This lecture series will offer participants an opportunity to engage with a range of contemporary psychoanalytic perspectives on understanding and thinking about different types of violence, in minds and deeds. There will be a combination of theory and clinical presentations. This series has relevance for those who are experienced and those who are new to this area.
