"Beginning with the role of feelings in the conscious mind, I shall describe briefly how, following from Freud’s drive theory, only the existence of an innate curiosity drive, ‘K’ as defined by Bion, can account for the move from the pleasure principle to the reality principle. I’ll show how this accounts for both the capacity to think in a 3-dimensional space but also how those developments can be corrupted in the service of unconscious beliefs. I shall then offer a hypothesis for how the current dominance of individual rights over any sense of care for others can be understood. This will involve reference to the impact of neoliberal ideas. All of which leads to the dominance of feelings over exactly that 3-dimensional thinking that is central to the maintenance of the reality principle.”
