Situated Psychoanalysis: The Maison Verte in Chile

Casa del Encuentro (CdE) is a psychoanalytically oriented community program located in an underserved area of Santiago, Chile, modeled on Françoise Dolto’s Maison Verte (1979). Since its establishment in 2014, CdE has offered a welcoming space where caregivers and children aged 0–6 can gather, fostering socio-emotional development and strengthening early relational bonds. The program supports fundamental processes of subjectivation, socialization, and separation. This presentation will explore Casa del Encuentro’s work and examine the interconnections between subjectivation processes, clinical manifestations, and territorial context—specifically, how particular social and geographical environments shape distinct forms of subjectivity.

Macarena Hernández is a Chilean clinical psychologist, MSc in Psychoanalytic Developmental Psychology, and PhD candidate in Psychoanalytic Studies at University College London. Her work focuses on applied psychoanalysis and early intervention in community settings. In Chile, she was part of the welcoming team at Casa del Encuentro, where she continues to teach on the postgraduate diploma program and leads her doctoral research project.

She has clinical experience in Parent-Infant Psychotherapy (PIP) and perinatal psychotherapeutic interventions in Neonatal Intensive Care Units.

Macarena currently works in London as a Parent-Infant Psychotherapist at Family Hubs and as co-facilitator at 10 Windsor Walk Therapeutic Playgroup, supporting refugee and asylum-seeking families with children aged 0–3.

She is also a founding member of the Latin American Psychoanalytic Hub (LAPH), an initiative fostering dialogue between Latin American and English-speaking psychoanalytic communities.
