5 seminar series on Trauma

Trauma series with Jo Stubley

5 seminar series
7.00pm - 8.30pm

This series will now be delivered remotely via Zoom

This series of seminars is designed to offer a psychoanalytic understanding of trauma. Psychoanalysis has much to offer the clinician working with people suffering from trauma. However the need for adaptation with many such patients is a common clinical experience. The growing wealth of literature in the trauma field can help in understanding what adaptations may be needed and why.  We will explore the spectrum of trauma from single episode adult traumas such as assaults or natural disasters to the more complex, chronic and repetitive traumas such as childhood sexual abuse. The concept of dissociation and a focus on the body in trauma will be considered, as well as the transgenerational transmission of trauma. The reading for the seminars will include authors from various psychoanalytic schools and this will be linked to neurobiological evidence and attachment theory, alongside trauma related research.

Course leader: Jo Stubley
Jo Stubley is a Medical Psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic. She leads the Tavistock Trauma Service and is a member of the British Psychoanalytic Society.
