Everyday life is complex, sometimes beautiful, sometimes overwhelming. Psychoanalysis offers some ideas that can enhance and deepen the understanding of the everyday. For anyone who has wondered but never asked, this lecture is for you.

Dr Avi Shmueli is a Training and Supervising Analyst of the British Psychoanalytical Society and also a Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist. Having originally trained as a clinical psychologist, he worked in the National Health Service, Tavistock Relationships, and then the Anna Freud Centre. He currently works in private practice, supervises the work of the Divorce and Separation Consultation Service at Tavistock Relationships and teaches at the British Psychoanalytical Society and at the Psychoanalysis Unit of University College London.

He is a clinician committed to psychoanalysis as a theory for understanding the mind and as a mode of clinical practice. In addition to working as a psychoanalyst, he has pursued the application of psychoanalytic concepts to empirical research and the fields of both family and criminal law. In doing so, he has developed the strong belief that psychoanalytic concepts must be made accessible, relevant and fun!
