An online event looking at the effect of violence on those working in forensic and mental health settings.

A number of recent studies have identified a significant increase in reported incidences of violence and aggression toward staff and other service users. Staff often tolerate high levels of physical and verbal violence in mental health settings. The mental health care system is under huge pressure as only the most disturbed are admitted to hospital and pressure on beds can mean that patients are discharged as soon as they show improvement.  Inpatient and community staff are having to deal with high levels of disturbance and risk. High levels of Violence in mental health systems may be a symptom of a system under pressure.

Join us for a conversation that aims to outline the problem, identify some of the causes and finally think about some interventions that might make a difference.

Chaired by Dr Jacqueline Bristow (Psychoanalyst, Psychiatrist)

Marcus Evans (Psychoanalyst, Registered Mental Nurse) will be in conversation with Dr Lydia Chambers (Psychiatrist, Psychoanalyst) Jo Osimuwa (Nurse specialist) and Dean Hughes (Modern Matron, Forensic and Offender Healthcare services). The discussion will then be opened up to attendees.

Please note: This event will be recorded and available for 1 week to all registered participants. This is to allow international attendees to enjoy the event at a more appropriate time in their time zone. After this time, the recording will no longer be available.
