ANNUAL REGIONAL COLLOQUIUM

The Millennium Hotel, George Square, Glasgow
Friday 27 - Saturday 28 March 2020

MIGRATION: INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL

The 2020 Regional Colloquium will explore the theme of Migration with reference to the impact of migration within the cultural history of the psychoanalytic tradition on its theoretical and clinical developments. A clinical presentation will reflect on the effects of cultural and geographical migration on the development of the internal world.

Speakers:

Rael Meyerowitz - ‘Difficult Passage: transience, transference and transition in Psychoanalysis’
This paper explores various aspects of these themes, at different levels within our discipline and practice: in the cultural history of the psychoanalytic movement itself; in the language of Psychoanalysis and the terms it has come to use; in the very aims of clinical Psychoanalysis and the effects or results we wish to achieve with our patients both externally and internally.

Anne Amos - ‘Trapped in Transit - a clinical account’.
First considering the significance of homesickness and nostalgia, this paper goes on to describe the analysis of a man who presented for Psychoanlytic help when his defensive ‘trapped in transit’ defensive structure had broken. His actual migration to the U.K. had been 15 years earlier.

The structure of the 2020 Regional Colloquium will be similar to 2019, commencing on Friday evening with clinical seminars and the Colloquium Dinner, followed by, on Saturday, further clinical seminars, two papers, the Dialogue with the Board, and will end with a drinks reception.

Fee: £95 for Members; Free for Candidates
Friday night colloquium Dinner: £30

There are five £50 bursaries available for candidates on a first come first served basis. If you wish to claim, email: outreach@iopa.org.uk as soon as possible.
