Last year\, a record 1.4 million children and young people sought NHS help for mental health pro blems and there is growing concern that under-18s are grappling with issues related to finances and education. The number of school-age children refer red to CAMHS has surged by 76% since 2019\, accord ing to NHS figures.\n \n Former Children&rsquo\;s Commissioner Anne Longfield has expressed concern over long waiting times\, resulting in only the mo st severe crises being prioritized. Shockingly\, s ome children who attempted suicide were not offere d support because they did not meet the threshold of multiple attempts. \;Front clinical staff a re struggling to keep up with the complexity and n umber of cases coming into the services.\n \n Thes e alarming statistics are mirrored in a recent rep ort from the Children&rsquo\;s Commissioner for En gland\, which emphasises that many children are se en in crisis and hospitalised when earlier interve ntion could have prevented such outcomes.\n \n Dr Elaine Lockhart\, Chair of the Royal College of Ps ychiatrists Faculty of Child\, and Adolescent Psyc hiatry has highlighted the devastating impact of t he mental health crisis on the well-being of our c hildren and young people.\n \n In this event\, we will hear firsthand accounts from clinicians worki ng in frontline CAMHS teams about the pressures th ey face.
