Nicola Abel-Hirsch

Ms Nicola Abel-Hirsch is a Fellow of the British Psychoanalytical Society.

Nicola Abel-Hirsch is particularly interested in the work of Bion, whose style of opening up questions and clearing the way for insights, rather than giving instruction, is proving helpful to both newly developing psychoanalytical societies, and more established societies.

Her most longstanding work internationally to date has been at the Taiwan Center for the Development of Psychoanalysis, Taipei, for one or two weeks each year 2006 - 2012. The work included lectures and seminars informed by the work of Bion for the newly developing Center of Psychoanalysis and also (organised by the Center), for the Medical staff of the City hospital, the University, and the public.

This work, begun in Taipei, then became the basis of papers given in Eastern Europe, exploring Bion’s thought:  ’The Pleasure Principle’  Invited speaker to the XIII-th Annual Conference of the Polish Psychoanalytical Society May 2011; ’Symbolisation And It’s Discontents’  Invited speaker to the Annual Conference of the Romanian Psychoanalytical Society, September 2012; ‘Knowledge and Sexuality’  Invited speaker to the Polish Psychoanalytical Society May 2013.
